How to Build a Better Website

S3 Members Private Content

I just shot a powerful web building video that details how to improve your website design, links, and forms for greater lead conversion. Originally this video was only meant for one of my private coaching clients, but she was nice enough to allow me to share with the Smart Studio Systems Community! Get all of the powerful tips I gave her now before she changes her mind!

I know you’re going to love this exclusive video (only on the S3 Member’s site) since it contains dozens and dozens of detailed tips on how I convert website readers to QUALIFIED leads by using specific strategies.

Most of the strategies fly under the radar, but that’s what they’re meant to do.

I want to gently guide the reader (prospect) in to taking ONE specific action on my website. You’ll find out that one action as well as all these other potent tips in the video below:

  • How to convert more leads
  • My PROVEN, tested, and BEST conversion form
  • Benefits of long vs. Short questionnaire forms
  • Where to place those forms on your website
  • What your links should say
  • The LINK you should have on EVERY page of your site
  • Where to put success stories
  • How to “Label” your success stories for more IMPACT
  • Creating a navigation bar
  • Where to always put your contact information (3 places)
  • How to create a better email address for a more professional brand
  • When not to use “your name” in the copy of the website
  • What you should always do to promote your “special talent”
  • How not to push potential leads away with the WRONG copy
  • Why the goal of your website is not to promote your online work
  • How to change your top web banner for more visual impact
  • Why writing about client BENEFITS is far better than stating program details
  • Where to place your welcome video on the page
  • How to make your website look more WEB 2.0
  • The LAST question you should always write on your online questionnaire
  • How to use “quotations” around key phrases for more impact
  • What NOT to have on your home page which KILLS conversion
  • How to use keywords strategically to improve your SEO rank

These are a few of the items you’ll learn in the website coaching video I created for one of my private coaching clients. She’s already made a ton of improvements in her business. One cool improvement we’ve worked on together is actually ending her days around 12pm instead of 4pm while still training the same amount of clients.

Not only that Victoria has picked up another half dozen clients over the past 2 months and is on pace to now reach 6 figures in her business!

As you could probably tell I’m always really proud of my coaching clients accomplishments – I love seeing fitness professionals dedicate themselves to not only improving themselves as fitness professionals, but as thriving fitness business owners as well!

Once Victoria maxes out her own personal client base (by the end of 2011) she will begin looking for a space to build out her own studio. This is when she’ll hire another fitness professional to work on her team where she’ll make a percentage of every session the new CPT is bringing in.

And that’s how you systematically grow your business!

Alright, enough talk, it’s time to watch the video now and see how you can use these tips to build a better website and increase your lead conversion.

Enjoy the video and as always please feel free to comment with any questions you have… or if you just want to holla and say how much you loved the tips!

Committed to your success,

    Hi Stephen,
Who do you recommend for building my website?
    Thanks.
    John

    • Hi John,

Finding web designers is a challenge in the beginning, but once you get a good one, you can hopefully continue to do work with them.

The best place to look locally is Craigslist.org and if yo don’t mind hiring elsewhere you can go to Upwork.com.

I also recommend only using a WordPress based website.

  • John Abbinanti

    Hi Stephen,
Thanks for all the plug ins! I also appreciate your thoughts on not making the comments so available to be seen on a public site and the possible SPAM. Did not think of that. Hope you had a great vacation! Inspiring to me that you were able to give yourself 2 weeks off. Looking to take at least a week off at the end of the Summer.

    • My pleasure and I want everyone to learn from my mistakes, so that you don’t have to make them!

Look for my upcoming email on how I use my own “4 hour work week” while I’m on extended vacations ; )

      Work hard – play hard!

    Stephen,
I plan on adding a blog section to my new website. It will mostly be quick tip videos (15 seconds) with a brief paragragh that gives a little more detail on the video subject. I would love to add a comments section to it allowing visitors to ask questions on the content. Would you please share with me the comments plugin system you are using for the comment I am now leaving. I have also seen others that link to other social media options. That is getting me a little overwhelmed but open to your thoughts. What I like about your comment system is that it is simple! Although it would be nice to get an email notification when you have responded. I think some systems have that feature. Look forward to your thoughts and thanks! John Abbinanti

    • Hi John,

I agree that comments can be overwhelming, which is why I only put them on private pages like this membership site and never on public sites… I let the comments go to YouTube, etc.

I simply don’t want to have to filter spam all day.

I really like this WP comment section style as well, and to be honest I don’t know if it was a custom design or not, so I’ll find out.

But as an S3 Member, ask and you shall receieve – here is every plug-in I use for this website:

  • John Abbinanti

Thanks! Very helpful feedback. Typo below…meant to write
There was a suggestion IN the copy above. You clarfified it for me regardless.

  • Thanks John!

Can you telll me what you meant by this line:
There was a suggestion I the copy above”

To answer your 2nd question, I was referring to not having your home page be an opt-in squeeze page llike some people teach. Squeeze pages are grreat for building a list when trying to sell a product, but not when a lead is hot and looking to sign up to solve their weight loss or other issues.

Putting someone in an autoresponder is not allowing them to get started right away, which is what most people want.

So you just have to decide if you want to build a list, or if you want to try to get real leads to contact you to meet this week.

    Hope this helps!

  • John Abbinanti

    Hi Stephen,
Great video and good timing as I am currently working on my new site. The Get Started Today link is key advice and I appreciate you encouraging it to be on every page. There was a suggestion I the copy above” What NOT to have on your home page which kills conversion. I must have missed that tip in the video. Can you please elaborate. I think I also missed where not to use your name in the copy. Would greatly appreciate some thoughts on those 2 subjects. Thanks John

  • Curt Ligot

Do you mind if I use your site as a template?

And have you ever played around with using a blog as your home page?

    Thanks,
    Curt

    • Hi Curt,

No problem on using mine as a template.

Never use a blog as your home page… I felt it was a bad idea before and I still feel that way now. When a lead hits your website they are ready and looking to sign up asap.

My recommendations is to continue directing them to take an action to sign up for a complimentary consultation or 21-day trial or… however you get them in your door.

  • Gemma Magnusson

Great video! So glad that I spent the time figuring out my small computer hiccup! The smallest of tweeks make all the difference, thank you Stephen and Victoria for sharing this info! 🙂

    • Sounds like it was a PC error – Does anyone even own a PC anymore?

Ha! Just kidding and I’m glad you got the internet issues worked out!

  • Gemma Magnusson

    Hi Stephen,

I have tried in Google Chrome and IE, downloaded the abode link you posted but still can’t access the video. What can I do to see it?

    Thank you for your time

    Gemma

  • Diana Singer

What about the website. Who would you recommend as a designer or developer?

    Diana

    • Hi Diana,

I recommend using a designer that you like on Guru.com or Elance.com, or even hire a designer from an ad you place on Craigslist.org.

Also, I do allow one of SmartStudioSystems member a month to work with my designer personally to build or update your website. He charges $40-50/hr which is pretty standard for an experienced designer that works 2-5x as fast as a novice or designer that has too many projects going on to give yours dedicated attention.

If you’re interested in working with my designer just email us at support@smartstudiosystems.com and just let us know what you are looking for.

  • Diana Singer

    Hi Steve

What if you are just starting out and don’t have any success stories? How would I set up my website and who do you recommend as a website designer or developer.

    Diana

    • Hi Diana,

This is a popular question and one I’ve answered a few times, but I’m happy to post it here as well since success stories are very important to your marketing.

if you don’t currently have any then you must train at least 2-3 people for free for even just a few weeks and get them results!

They can be friends, coworkers, etc., and you don’t even need a before photo to use. For years all I had were written testimonials. Then eventually I got “after” photos from my clients to use with the testimonials, and finally after a few years I smartened up and started taking before photos during my initial consultation with new clients. Now I have all the before/after photos, and testimonials I could ever want or use!

I suggest you do the same and add it to every one of your marketing pieces – it works!

  • Adam Mole

This video doesn’t seem to play, Is there a problem?

    • steve

      Hi Adam,

Do you have the latest flash player installed on your browser? If not, please check your version at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and let me know if the video still does not play.

      Thanks!
      – Steve

  • I hope you got a lot out of this video on how to build a better website that converts more prospects to clients!

    • John Fayocavitz

I am having the same issue as Adam. I have the latest Flash and I’ve checked on both Firefox and IE. Please advise.

    • Hi John,

I’m sorry to hear that. 99% of everyone can see it and we just tried it on a PC, Mac, and at work/home, so I’m not sure why it’s not showing up on your computer? It’s simply hosted on Amazon S3 and doesn’t use any flash, etc.

It looks like the 2 other people that had problems ended up finding out why their computers wouldn’t play it. If there was another way for me to get you the video I would, but it’s a private video for S3 Members, so I can’t put it on YouTube…
